Bits and Pieces - Craft Open House 2010

This week was a very busy week with setting up my Open House to sell my Crafts.  I felt this year that I would have to downsize my show and just hold it in the room I call a breezeway 10 by 20 room.  I have 2 trees set up this year to display all the ornaments that I have either purchased and all the ornaments that I have handmade.
I used to do Craft Shows locally in our State, and with having started to baby sit for my grandchildren I dropped those, well this year I have decided that I might dust off the tent and tables and start setting up at local shows for the coming year.   My success in finding a job, has not panned out to well this past year, with having to apply for 2 job searches and applications per week, with no results.  It’s time to take my future into my own hands and try to restart my Crafts from Hobby to Job.  So wish me luck on this venture.
Back to the Open House, the first day was pretty successful and I had many customers come thru the doors with not many leaving before purchasing items.  One of the favorites this year was my Nativity Signs for outside, as well as my old Apples with ABC’s for teachers.  Also had some of my new Santa designs went out the door along with some Gingerbread items.
I’m looking forward to the coming Saturday sale to see how things go for a second weekend.  This was a first for me.  Usually I have my Open House for three days a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Basically this week will be to get some of the best seller’s made over again for the coming week.  I have also placed ads in local papers under the yard sale sections this year, instead of using block ads and seem locals read the yard sale section more than the block ads.  So save a little on advertising if possible, I also had mailed out 66 postcards to former customers, emails to friends and used my face book to post my events.
So wish me luck on my coming week to get rid of my Crafts, I’ve been remaking some of my patterns from previous years and they just needed to be spruced up this modern look and some new ideas added to the items.  It’s great to get those creative juices flowing again after taking a break for about 4 years.

Well my future Son-in-law asked today how many Christmas Trees I have set up in the house.  This year is just a little different, and I will try to outdo last year’s total of 18 trees.  They are naturally different sizes and shapes.  I know that usually I have about half of them set up by this date.  So this week will try to get more set up.  Mike is traveling home from Iraq for Thanksgiving and a week to spend with his family in California.  I’m sure he will be shocked by the weather change when he arrives here in Pennsylvania.  It’s sort of like a deer look in the headlights or sticker shock.  I understand that we will be having some rather cold weather and a chance of snow for the Thanksgiving week.  Can’t wait to get him back in the states and especially to give him a big hug and thank you for defending our country.
